Texas Attorney General Paxton is suing the producers of acetaminophen, asserting the firms hid alleged dangers that the drug posed to pediatric cognitive development.

The court filing follows four weeks after Former President Trump promoted an unverified association between consuming acetaminophen - referred to as paracetamol - while pregnant and autism spectrum disorder in children.

The attorney general is filing suit against Johnson & Johnson, which formerly manufactured the medication, the only pain reliever recommended for women during pregnancy, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a official comment, he stated they "misled consumers by making money from suffering and pushing pills ignoring the potential hazards."

The manufacturer states there is lacking scientific proof tying Tylenol to autism.

"These companies misled for generations, intentionally threatening numerous people to boost earnings," Paxton, from the Republican party, said.

The manufacturer said in a statement that it was "very worried by the perpetuation of misinformation on the reliability of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the well-being of US mothers and children."

On its official site, Kenvue also said it had "continuously evaluated the relevant science and there is no credible data that demonstrates a proven link between consuming acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Groups representing doctors and health professionals agree.

ACOG has declared paracetamol - the key substance in Tylenol - is among limited choices for expectant mothers to manage pain and fever, which can present major wellness concerns if ignored.

"In more than two decades of research on the utilization of acetaminophen in pregnancy, zero credible investigations has definitively established that the consumption of paracetamol in any stage of gestation causes neurodevelopmental disorders in young ones," the group said.

This legal action mentions recent announcements from the previous government in asserting the medication is reportedly hazardous.

In recent weeks, Trump caused concern from medical authorities when he instructed expectant mothers to "resist strongly" not to consume acetaminophen when sick.

The FDA then published an announcement that physicians should think about restricting the usage of Tylenol, while also declaring that "a proven link" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in young ones has remains unverified.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who oversees the FDA, had promised in April to conduct "comprehensive study program" that would identify the source of autism in a short period.

But specialists advised that discovering a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - believed by scientists to be the result of a complicated interplay of inherited and external influences - would not be simple.

Autism spectrum disorder is a form of permanent neurological difference and impairment that affects how individuals experience and interact with the environment, and is identified using physician assessments.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - who supports Trump who is running for US Senate - alleges the manufacturer and Johnson & Johnson "deliberately disregarded and attempted to silence the research" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

This legal action attempts to require the firms "destroy any marketing or advertising" that states acetaminophen is secure for women during pregnancy.

The Texas lawsuit parallels the concerns of a collection of parents of minors with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the makers of Tylenol in recently.

Judicial authorities dismissed the lawsuit, saying research from the plaintiffs' authorities was inconclusive.
