The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
