The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
