Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant backing from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Club Management

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Issues and Player Response

Slot highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.

“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period like this with results like these.”

He stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
