Jennifer Lawrence Says Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Nation Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer fitting to voice opinions countering the Trump government, concerned it could intensify divisive discussions and further divisions within the country.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes the Actress

During a discussion, Lawrence reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, through repeated campaigns, public figures do not make a difference at all on voter decisions.”

The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the nation apart.”

Changing Allegiances

The actress has admitted freely about supporting right and leftwing contenders in past elections. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and revealing she recognized during Obama’s administration that backing conservatives was opposing her individual liberties as a female citizen.

Past Statements

In 2015, she commented that Trump winning the presidency might signal “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “as I feel she’s a strong contender and I trust that she will make every effort to safeguard reproductive rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Jennifer Lawrence was joined by numerous celebrities in her opposition to Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the voting intentions was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“The second term seems distinct,” commented the actress regarding his administration. “As he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”

Latest Film

Jennifer Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she plays a young mom who deals with her mental health in rural Montana. During a media event for the project in the film festival, she commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is no less than a genocide and it’s awful.”

Wider Issues

Lawrence added by expressing that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discourse of American politics right now and how that is going to be normalised to the children now. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”

Lawrence aimed to shift outrage about the issue to leaders rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she said, seen by observers as a reference to the then-recent pledge supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with Israeli film institutions.

Relatable Experiences

Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her performance in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in the new film. Although Ramsay has disputed the story being understood as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, she shared that she did relate to aspects of her character’s journey after the arrival of her youngest child, not long after production wrapped.

“There was concern regarding my baby,” she commented, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then doubting everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a medication called Zurzuvae and I continued it for two weeks and it made a difference.”

Film Challenges

The actor also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was expecting and limited physically.

“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
