British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up this year's campaign and has decided to continue with coach for 2026.
Emma Raducanu made it to the third stage in three of the four Grand Slam events this year.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has pulled out of her remaining competitions of the year as a result of the illness that has affected her over the past 10 days.
The 22-year-old was due to play in Tokyo and Hong Kong but opted to return home to regain her health prior to beginning plans for the 2026 season.
Those preparations will involve coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals have decided to continue collaborating again next season.
The tennis professional required blood pressure checks during her first-round match versus Ann Li in Wuhan last week and withdrew when trailing 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.
Another medical visit was necessary medical attention at this week's Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to local wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.
Raducanu was also moving far from freely in the deciding set versus Zhu because of the lower back problem that has troubled her during parts of the season.
Such performances followed a positive campaign, in which she climbed into the international top 30 after more than three years for the first time since 2022, ended with three successive defeats.
She held three match points prior to falling to American player Jessica Pegula in the third stage in Beijing last month.
The player achieved twenty-eight matches this year and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami Open in March.
As Britain's top player advanced to the quarters of a premier WTA event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route before losing in a three-set match to the world number four Pegula.
She worked with Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Roig taking over for the US Open.
The original arrangement with Rafael Nadal's former coach was through the season's conclusion but the collaboration persists, with a training block pencilled in for the end of the year.
Raducanu told that her three-day trial with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.
She nearly succeeded to beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati in August.
Roig was also with Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three then falling to 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
